Root canal treatment is a procedure to treat an infection in the nerve of the tooth caused by tooth decay, a leaking filling or due to trauma. It is also known as Endodontics.
Root canal treatment should not be uncomfortable, as you will be given some local anaesthetic. The treatment is usually very successful and very similar to having a filling done.
During root canal treatment the bacteria is removed from the canal of the tooth, the canal is then filled and the tooth is sealed with a filling or crown. You may be advised by your dentist at Galway Dental Clinic to have a crown fitted on the root-treated tooth for protection; this is because a root-treated tooth is more likely to fracture than one without.
Once it is completed, it is important to continue to look after your root-treated tooth just like your natural teeth and to attend your dentist as often as advised.
Our highly-skilled and experienced dentists have trained in root canal treatment in the UK, US and throughout Europe.
